Under new rules, purchases of at-home, over-the-counter COVID-19 diagnostic tests must now be reimbursed by health insurance companies.

How do I get reimbursed?

  • Download your receipt through the link at the bottom of your Octo.Health order confirmation email.

  • Follow instructions on your health insurance website for submitting a claim.

  • For more details on how to submit a claim, please contact the number on the back of your insurance card.

Can I get reimbursed for COVID test kit purchases made prior to January 15th, 2022?

Your health insurance plan will determine whether you can be reimbursed for COVID test kits purchased before January 15th 2022. To find out more information, please call the phone number on the back of your insurance card.

Are all COVID test kits covered by my health insurance?

Most FDA-authorized Covid test kits are covered, but please call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out which specific tests are within your network.

How many COVID-19 test kits can I purchase?

Each covered individual on your insurance plan can get reimbursed for up to 8 COVID tests every 30 days, each up to a maximum value of $12. If a test kit contains 2 separate COVID tests, this kit will count as 2 tests toward your allowance of 8 per month and will be reimbursed at a maximum value of $24 ($12 for each test).

Do I have to pay out of pocket or will my insurance cover the COVID test kit at the time of sale?

Currently you will have to pay out of pocket for a COVID test kit and submit a receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.

I have Medicare coverage, is my COVID test kit reimbursable?

Traditional Medicare members are not eligible to submit their receipts for reimbursement. However, the federal government will provide free COVID test kits to community health centers for distribution. More information can be found on the Health Resources & Services Administration website. If you are on a Medicare Advantage plan, please call the number on the back of your insurance card to see if they will reimburse you.

I have Medicaid, is my COVID test kit reimbursable?

Medicaid members are not eligible to submit their receipts for reimbursement. If you have Medicaid, please contact your state Medicaid or CHIP agency for more information on how to access free COVID test kits.

Are shipping costs covered under the $0 copay?

No. However, Octo.Health offers free shipping on orders over $49.

Do I need a prescription from my doctor in order to get reimbursed for my COVID test kit?

No, you do not need a prescription to get reimbursed for your COVID test kit.

If I am uninsured, can I still get a free COVID test kit through Octo.Health?

If you are uninsured, you can still purchase a Covid test kit through the Octo.Health, but will not be able to submit for reimbursement. However, you can check the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services website for more information on how to get a free Covid test.

Is this test eligible for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)?

Yes, this test is an eligible expense that can be reimbursed under FSAs.
